BLACKSTAR - 'Writing' para la clase de inglés:

"...I WANT EAGLES IN MY DAYDREAMS, DIAMONDS IN MY EYES..."

For this composition I´d like to write about the Brixtonian David Robert Jones, worldwide known as David Bowie, my favourite artist and the man with a thousand names: Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, The Thin White Duke and, of course, The Chameleon of Rock.

He was a multitalented artist (a singer, a songwriter, a musician, a producer, an actor, an entertainer and many more) and a successful man: in the late 60´s with the Psychedelic hymn "Space Oddity", in the 70´s with the Glam-era, in the 80´s as a Pop-Star with "Let´s Dance"... Decades and decades on top.

Sadly, he passed away few months ago, exactly on the 10th of January, two days after his 69th birthday and the release of 'Blackstar', his wonderful, stunning and posthumous album.

The first time I heard his music (the 1974 "Rebel Rebel" hit song) I thought he was crazy. My bedroom exploded into a myriad of colours. From the kitchen, my mother said he sang like a little girl. His androginous costumes, his make-up and his manners hid what really matters: the message.

'Blackstar' was recorded in New York while he was seriously ill with cancer. That´s the reason why this L.P is deeper than any of his previous albums. The music inside is a mixture of Jazz, Avant-Garde and a pinch of Electronic sounds... Always one step ahead, in the future.

On the other hand , the emotive and cryptic lyrics , due to illness , looks like a swan song or a dark farewell ("Blackstar", "Lazarus", "Dollar Days"...)  And it hurts. Words that show what life is really. A lesson. A truly testament.

Finally, I must say that David Bowie´s personality represents to me the authentic of Great Britain: elegance, intelligence and pioneering. Also, that his enormous and colossal legacy includes music, films, art, fashion and Literature... That is, A UNIQUE AND IMMORTAL GENIUS.
